Confess this is hard to believe

ImageBelarusian law enforcements took less than two days to identify and detain those suspected of committing the terrorist act

At ‘May Day’ station I walk through a metal detector, the likes of which had never been seen on the Minsk subway until after the April 11th terrorist attack, just as there never used to be police patrols. The people in camouflage uniforms and berets showed up a few hours after the tragedy, while the stationary metal detectors were installed the following day.

My compact travel bag did not summon interest from law enforcement, but a disheveled guy who passed me just before the subway entrance was stopped and searched. It did not take long. The police worked quickly, politely, and without irritation.

Written by Алексей ЗОЛОТНИЦКИЙ

ImageIn Minsk they will long remember the evening of April 11th, 2011, when an explosion at the ‘October’ subway station took the lives of 11 people. The law enforcement bodies after their first examination of the scene now have no doubts as to what to label the explosion: this is an act of terrorism, the likes of which modern Belarus has never before known.

The authorities made no official statement for three hours

11 people were killed, and the victims number in the dozens (photos and video by eyewitnesses)
Surveillance cameras caught the moment of the explosion in the ‘October’ station of the Minsk subway, and footage was shown on Belarusian central television. For three hours after the explosion, the authorities made no official statement.
On Monday evening an explosion took place in the ‘October’ station of the Minsk subway system, representatives of the Minsk Ministry of Emergency Situations reported. According to witnesses, black smoke was seen rising from the station’s underground passageway, and people running out in torn clothing. Some were shoeless. According to current data, 11 people perished and the wounded number in the dozens. ‘Novosti’ reports, with reference to the Russian ambassador to Belarus, that the explosion injured two Russian women: Olga Frolova, and Nadezhda Lukova.

After the explosion the taxi-vans are carrying people free of charge. Russia’s a long way from such reciprocity (a reference to reported taxi overcharges following last year’s Moscow subway attacks — ed).

I passed by October Square. People coming out of the subway in smoke and ashes. Bunch of fire trucks.

U.S. releases evidence against organizers of the 9–11 terror
Written by Лента.ру
Воскресенье, 10 Апрель 2011

ImageThe U. S. government for the first time has released in full the evidence against the organizers of the September 11th, 2001, terrorist attacks, Agence France-Presse reported on Sunday, April 10th.

The data was made public just as U. S. Attorney General Eric Holder was referring the case to the Defense Department. The terrorists will be judged by a military tribunal in Guantanamo, rather than in a civilian criminal court in the United States.

130 осталось в Норд-Осте

Friends!

I hasten to bring you good news — the collected materials have been submitted in preparation for printing, and so soon, very soon, you will not only be able to read the Memorial Book on our site, but browse through it in hard copy as well.

Many thanks to those who responded to our request and told about loved ones who died at Dubrovka, and thanks as well to those journalists who wrote about the lives of these people. Without your help this book would never have been written.

Thanks to public and political figures — all who tried to save the hostages back then, and who now support our project:
